Near-misses

This image to the right was a test image for an idea I had rattling around my head. The idea never quite made it into a worthwhile finished piece.

My goal was to create an immersive scene that was organic, had an illuminated water effect and, generally, didn't look mechanical.

The trobule was that I just didn't have the skills to do what I wanted. I had no idea how to model the type of organic trees I wanted or how to control the tricky lighting in the water or anything else for that matter.

The image to the left was my first real attempt to create a complex, organic model. It didn't really live up to my expectations. Later though, I combined elements from the scene above with a new and better version of the fish to create a much more successful piece. I guess I just needed more skills and better software.
